Small Group Leader Application

What exactly are Small Groups? Small Groups are groups of 4 or more people who are committed to pursuing life in Christ together. Every week throughout the fall (August 24 - December 21) and spring (February 1 - May 31) semesters, parishioners gather for an hour and half or two hours to eat with each other, pray with and for one another, unpack the previous Sunday’s scripture readings, and work out their faith with one another. Groups can be co-ed or gender specific. Redeemer Small Groups will launch on August 24th.

What am I responsible for as a Small Group leader? Attend periodic trainings as directed by the Director of Community Formation, the first of which will be offered a few times this August. Conduct weekly group gatherings throughout the fall and spring semesters. As a Small Group leader you will be responsible for ensuring that the gathering happens. There is more to unpack for this responsibility. We will equip you with tools to help this run smoothly.

Do I have to lead alone? Not at all. This role is not meant to be done alone. Include people to pray for you, help with organizing details, help with meals, take attendance, help organize babysitting, etc. You will have the Director of Community Formation as a resource, not to mention God at work in you and your members.

Are children present for Small Group? That is up to you. Children make for a great addition to group life. If you decide to have children in your group, you will need to decide if your group will all pitch in for a babysitter, have a parent rotate attending to the children, or leave the children unattended.

When must my group meet? Your group may meet any time of day that allows consistent and healthy weekly gatherings.

Must we meet in my house? No. You may have someone else host the group in their home, rotate between participants’ homes, or meet anywhere that will allow thoughtful and intentional discussion. You want to have as much control as possible over sound in the space and avoid interruptions.

What are the next steps? Complete the form below and meet with the Director of Community Formation for conversation and prayer.
